ABOUT
Alice is a 22 year old artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. Her work centers around a fascination for pattern, form and colour. She is obsessed with shapes and forms that merge and interconnect with one another and the tension created between them competing on a surface. Vibrant colour is important to her, which when matched with complicated forms, renders her work somewhat psychedelic. She wants the viewer to constantly be engaging with new parts of her paintings, elements they had not noticed at first.
Presently, natural imagery such as gum bark and water refections, alongside 60s psychedelic graphic design, form the inspiration for her work. She paints from zoomed in elements of these sources, creating exciting, abstract shapes and forms that cannot be traced back to their original source material. Alice’s current body of work centres around gestural, fuid mark-making using acrylic on stretched chiffon material. Her way of making is instinctual and can be best described as problem solving – figuring out what needs to be where in order for the painting to make sense.
